Do In
Do In (also called Daoyin, Dao-In and Tao-In) is a self-help therapy
that combines some of the principles of Shiatsu and Acupressure with stretches,
exercises, breathing, meditation techniques and in some cases following a
macrobiotic diet.
Do-In means self-stimulation in Japanese and refers to the various methods used
to gather and strengthen energy (Ki) in the meridian systems of the body, especially
in the abdominal area known as the Hara. Do-In also helps to eliminate toxins,
promote self-development and increase spirituality. Contemplation and meditation
are important aspects of a Do-In session to increase spiritual harmony and understanding.
Exercises
used in a Do-In session:
Hara Breathing : methods of using the breath
to centre the Ki in the Hara, or abdomen.
Self-Shiatsu Massage :
a series of massage techniques to restore the flow of Ki along the
meridians, using tapping, squeezing, rubbing and pressure to the whole
body.
Makko-Ho Stretches : six stretches, very similar
to Hatha Yoga postures, but designed to stimulate and rebalance the
Ki along associated pairs of the 12 main Ki meridians in the body.
Meditation:
methods of meditation and contemplation to quieten the mind and increase
awareness and understanding.
